Problem

A freshly separated sample of carbon-14 has a mass of 12 g. (i) Calculate the mass that remains undecayed after 11 460 years. (ii) The sample is then left for a further 2 000 years. Find the mass still present at the end of this second interval. (iii) Express the final mass obtained in part (ii) as a percentage of the original 12 g. [Given: the half-life of carbon-14 is 5 730 years.]
