Problem

Let a, b\mathbf{a},\,\mathbf{b}, and c\mathbf{c} be the position vectors of the vertices A, BA,\,B, and CC of a quadrilateral ABCDABCD taken with respect to an origin OO. Suppose that d\mathbf{d} is the position vector of the fourth vertex DD such that a+c=b+d\mathbf{a}+\mathbf{c}=\mathbf{b}+\mathbf{d}. (a) Prove that ABCDABCD is a parallelogram. (b) Show that the diagonals ACAC and BDBD bisect each other. (c) If a=(1,2,3)\mathbf{a}=(1,2,3), b=(4,−1,0)\mathbf{b}=(4,-1,0), and c=(−2,5,6)\mathbf{c}=(-2,5,6), find the coordinates of DD and verify the result obtained in part (b) using components.
