Problem

A capacitor initially has a charge of 80 μC80\,\mu\text{C} when its capacitance is 2.5 nF2.5\,\text{nF}. The capacitor is isolated from any circuit before the following operation. (i) Calculate the potential difference between its plates. (ii) A dielectric slab is now inserted completely between the plates so that the capacitance becomes five times its original value. Keeping the charge unchanged, determine the new potential difference. (iii) By what factor does the potential difference change due to the insertion of the dielectric?
