A filament lamp behaves ohmically in its safe operating range. Its resistance at room temperature is 10Ω.
(i) Find the current through the filament when a potential difference of 5V is applied.
(ii) Without recalculating the resistance, determine the current if the applied potential difference is doubled.
(iii) The filament is now replaced by another wire whose resistance is three times that of the original filament while the potential difference is kept at 10V. Calculate the current in this case.
(iv) Compare the currents obtained in parts (ii) and (iii) with the current found in part (i), stating the multiplying or dividing factors clearly.
