Problem

Two points in space are A(k,1,2)A(k,1,2) and B(3,k,0)B(3,k,0), where kk is a real parameter. (i) Find all real values of kk for which the distances of AA and BB from the origin are equal. (ii) For each value of kk obtained in part (i), calculate the common distance and state whether it is less than 44, equal to 44, or greater than 44. (iii) Verify that, for the values of kk found, the two points AA and BB lie on the same sphere centred at the origin and determine the radius of this sphere.
