Problem

For a fixed angle of 90∘90^{\circ} between a straight conductor and a uniform magnetic field, a student investigates how the magnetic force varies with the current through the conductor. The length of the conductor within the field is 0.30 m0.30\,\text{m} and the magnetic field strength is 0.50 T0.50\,\text{T}. (a) Calculate the magnetic force when the current is 2.0 A2.0\,\text{A}, 6.0 A6.0\,\text{A} and 10.0 A10.0\,\text{A}. (b) Plot the graph of force FF (vertical axis) against current II (horizontal axis) for the range 0 A≤I≤10 A0\,\text{A}\le I\le10\,\text{A}, using the points obtained in part (a) to guide your straight line. (c) Using the graph, determine the current required to produce a force of 0.75 N0.75\,\text{N}. Show clearly how the value is read from the graph and comment on the nature of the FF–II relationship revealed by your plot.
