An electrician needs a resistor whose value lies between 1.0Ω and 1.2Ω (both limits inclusive) and has at hand an unlimited supply of identical 3Ω resistors.
(a) Investigate combinations of up to eight of the 3Ω resistors, connected in any series–parallel manner, to find the smallest number of resistors that can produce an equivalent resistance within the specified range.
(b) For the combination identified in part (a), calculate the equivalent resistance and show that it satisfies the required range.
(c) The combination found in part (a) is connected across a 6V battery. Calculate the power dissipated in the network.
