Problem
Two swimmers leave point A on one bank of a river to reach point B directly opposite on the other bank. One crosses along the straight line AB. The other swims at right angles to the stream and then walks the distance he has been carried downstream to reach B. Find his walking velocity u if both swimmers reach B simultaneously. The stream velocity is v0=2.0 km h−1 and each swimmer's velocity relative to the water is v′=2.5 km h−1.
