Problem

An elevator is moving upward with an acceleration of 1 m s−21\text{ m s}^{-2}. At an instant when its velocity is 2 m s−12\text{ m s}^{-1}, a stone is projected upward from its floor with a speed of 2 m s−12\text{ m s}^{-1} relative to the elevator, at an elevation of 30∘30^\circ. (1) Calculate the time taken by the stone to return to the floor. (2) Sketch the path of the projectile as observed by an observer outside the elevator. (3) If the elevator were moving with a downward acceleration equal to gg, how would the motion be altered?
