Problem

Points A(−6,2)A(-6,2), B(−2,2)B(-2,2), C(−2,5)C(-2,5), D(3,5)D(3,5), E(3,−1)E(3,-1) and F(−6,−1)F(-6,-1) are given. (i) Plot the six points and join them consecutively in the order A→B→C→D→E→F→AA\rightarrow B\rightarrow C\rightarrow D\rightarrow E\rightarrow F\rightarrow A to obtain a closed polygon. (ii) List the lengths of all the sides of the polygon, showing how you obtained each length from the coordinates. (iii) Calculate the perimeter of the polygon. (iv) Determine the total area enclosed by the polygon by subdividing it into rectangles. (v) State how many vertices of the polygon lie in each quadrant of the plane and justify your answer from the coordinates.
