Problem

A straight line LL is given by (k+3)x−(2k−1)y+4=0(k + 3)x - (2k - 1)y + 4 = 0, where kk is a real parameter. Another line MM has the equation 5x+10y−15=05x + 10y - 15 = 0. Point P(2,−1)P(2, -1) lies in the plane. (i) Find all values of kk for which the line LL passes through the point PP. (ii) For each value of kk obtained in part (i), rewrite LL in slope-intercept form and hence state its slope m1m_1. (iii) Rewrite MM in slope-intercept form and state its slope m2m_2. (iv) For each admissible value of kk, determine whether LL is parallel to MM, perpendicular to MM, or neither. Give reasons based on the slopes obtained.
