Problem

A satellite AA moves in a circular orbit of radius rr around a planet, while a second satellite BB moves in a coplanar circular orbit of radius 1.4r1.4r. (i) When both satellites pass through equal arc lengths measured along their respective orbits, derive an expression for the ratio of their angular displacements. (ii) If each satellite sweeps an angle of 60∘60^{\circ} about the planet, calculate the distance travelled by satellite BB and then by satellite AA. (iii) Satellite BB is transferred to a slightly higher orbit whose radius becomes 1.1×(1.4r)1.1\times(1.4r). For the same 60∘60^{\circ} sweep, determine the percentage change in the distance travelled by satellite BB compared with part (ii).
