Problem

A coil of inductance L=0.20 HL = 0.20\,\text{H} and resistance R=50 ΩR = 50\,\Omega is connected in series with a capacitor of capacitance C=20 μFC = 20\,\mu\text{F} to an ac supply of rms voltage 100 V100\,\text{V}. (a) Calculate the resonant frequency of the circuit. (b) Determine the rms current in the circuit at resonance. (c) Find the rms current when the circuit is driven at 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz} instead of the resonant frequency. (d) Compare the currents obtained in parts (b) and (c) and comment on the result.
