Problem

A Pitot tube in an air duct is connected to a vertical mercury manometer. The manometer shows a height difference of 10 cm10\,\text{cm} of mercury. Take ρHg=13.6×103 kg m−3\rho_{\text{Hg}}=13.6\times10^{3}\,\text{kg m}^{-3}, ρair=1.2 kg m−3\rho_{\text{air}}=1.2\,\text{kg m}^{-3} and g=9.8 m s−2g=9.8\,\text{m s}^{-2}. Calculate the speed of air in the duct (give your answer to two significant figures).
