Problem

Planet Z has a mass equal to 0.100.10 of Earth’s mass and a radius equal to 0.300.30 of Earth’s radius. A ball is projected vertically upward from its surface with a speed of 15 m/s15\,\text{m/s}; air resistance is negligible. (i) Calculate the acceleration due to gravity on Planet Z using G=6.67×10−11 N m2 ⁣/kg2G = 6.67\times10^{-11}\,\text{N\,m}^2\!/\text{kg}^2. (ii) Determine the maximum height reached by the ball above the surface of Planet Z. (iii) Find the total time interval between projection and return of the ball to the surface of Planet Z.
