Problem

Two identical point masses of 2.0 kg each are attached to a light rigid rod of length 0.60 m. The rod can rotate about an axis perpendicular to its length and passing through one end of the rod. (a) Calculate the total moment of inertia of the system about the given axis when one mass is at the axis and the other at the far end of the rod. (b) The two masses are now moved so that both are at equal distances xx from the axis on the same side. Find the value of xx that keeps the moment of inertia unchanged.
