Problem

A vertical cylindrical tank of cross-sectional area 0.30 m20.30\,\text{m}^{2} is filled with water to a depth of 1.2 m1.2\,\text{m}. A small orifice of area 5.0×10−4 m25.0\times10^{-4}\,\text{m}^{2} is opened at the bottom of the tank. Take g=9.8 m s−2g=9.8\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2}. (i) Calculate the initial speed of water leaving the orifice. (ii) Find the volume of water discharged in the first 10 s10\,\text{s}, assuming the water level does not change appreciably in this interval. (iii) Estimate the fall in water level inside the tank during these 10 s10\,\text{s}. (Give your answer correct to two significant figures.)
