Problem
Two bodies of masses m1 and m2 are connected by a light, inextensible string passing over a smooth fixed pulley. Both bodies are free to move vertically after the system is released from rest.
(a) Draw the free-body diagram of each mass when the system is in motion.
(b) Explain with reason whether the tension in the string is the same on both sides of the pulley.
(c) If m1=m2, state and explain the resulting motion of the system. What will be the value of the tension in the string in this case?
