Problem
A tent is in the shape of a right circular cone whose base radius is 5 m and slant height is 13 m. The canvas is required only for the curved part of the cone; the base is left open. Use π=722.
(i) Specify the exact surface measure that must be calculated to know the amount of canvas needed.
(ii) Calculate the area of canvas required for the curved part of the tent.
(iii) If 10\% extra canvas is needed for seams and wastage, determine the total area of canvas that should be purchased.
(iv) Explain briefly why calculating the volume of the cone would not help in deciding the amount of canvas required.
