Problem
An ideal 12V battery is connected across nodes A (positive) and B (negative) of the network described below:
• From A to node C there is a 4Ω resistor.
• From C to B there is a 6Ω resistor.
• A single 10Ω resistor connects A directly to B.
• A 8Ω resistor joins node C to node B.
The arrangement therefore contains two distinct closed paths sharing some elements.
(i) Write two independent algebraic equations relating the currents in the branches of the network.
(ii) Solve the equations to find the current supplied by the battery and the current through the 10Ω resistor.
(iii) Calculate the power dissipated in the 6Ω resistor.
