Problem

In a series R–L–CR\text{–}L\text{–}C circuit the measured rms voltages across the individual elements are VR=120 VV_R = 120\,\text{V}, VL=190 VV_L = 190\,\text{V} and VC=70 VV_C = 70\,\text{V}. The circuit is driven by a single-phase AC source of frequency 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz} carrying an rms current IrmsI_{\text{rms}}. Solve the following: (i) Find the magnitude of the net reactive voltage (VL−VC)(V_L - V_C) in the circuit. (ii) Determine the rms value of the supply voltage. (iii) Calculate the phase angle between the supply voltage and the current, stating whether the current leads or lags.
