Problem

A block of mass 2.5 kg2.5\,\text{kg} rests on a straight ramp that makes an angle of 25∘25^{\circ} above the horizontal. A light rope pulls the block up the ramp with a constant tension of 5.0 N5.0\,\text N. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the ramp is μk=0.15\mu_{k}=0.15. Air resistance is negligible. (a) Identify all forces acting on the block and state which of them have components parallel to the surface of the ramp. (b) Compute the magnitude and direction (up or down the ramp) of the net force parallel to the ramp. (c) Determine the magnitude and direction of the block’s acceleration along the ramp. (d) If the block starts from rest, calculate the time required for it to travel 1.2 m1.2\,\text m along the surface of the ramp under the conditions described above.
