Problem

A uniform wire of resistance RR is drawn out so that its radius becomes one-third of its original value. The deformation is homogeneous and no material is lost. (i) Express the new length of the wire in terms of its original length. (ii) Derive an expression for the new resistance of the wire in terms of RR. (iii) Calculate the percentage increase in resistance produced by this change in dimensions.
