Problem

For a real parameter kk, define the function gk:[0,π2]→Rg_k:[0,\tfrac{\pi}{2}]\to\mathbb{R} by gk(x)=ksin⁡x−cos⁡xg_k(x)=k\sin x-\cos x. (i) Compute gk′(x)g_k'(x). (ii) Determine all real values of kk for which gkg_k is increasing on the entire interval [0,π2]\bigl[0,\tfrac{\pi}{2}\bigr]. (iii) For the least value of kk obtained in (ii), evaluate gk(0)g_k(0).
