Problem

A Wheatstone bridge has the following arm resistances: R1=120 ΩR_1 = 120\,\Omega (AB), R2=100 ΩR_2 = 100\,\Omega (BC), R3=200 ΩR_3 = 200\,\Omega (AD) and R4=210 ΩR_4 = 210\,\Omega (DC). A galvanometer of resistance 30 Ω30\,\Omega is connected between B and D and a 12 V12\,\text{V} battery (having negligible internal resistance) is connected between A and C. (i) Determine the potential difference between the junctions B and D. (ii) Calculate the magnitude of current through the galvanometer. (iii) State clearly the junction (B or D) that is at the higher potential.
