Problem

Consider a circle with centre OO and a point PP lying outside the circle. The lines PAPA and PBPB touch the circle at the points AA and BB respectively. (i) Define a tangent to a circle. (ii) Give a geometrical reason to show that ∠OAP=90∘\angle OAP = 90^\circ. (iii) Using suitable reasoning, explain why PA=PBPA = PB. Treat this result entirely as a consequence of right–angle properties obtained in part (ii).
