Problem
A gardener lifts a watering can of mass 12\,kg from the ground and places it on a shelf 1.8\,m above the ground. Take g=9.8ms−2.
(i) Calculate the work done by the gardener on the watering can.
(ii) If the lifting takes 3.0\,s, determine the power developed by the gardener during the lift.
(iii) Suppose instead the gardener walks up a 5\,m long smooth ramp that ends at the same shelf height while carrying the can at constant speed. How much extra work, if any, is required compared to the direct vertical lift? Give a brief reason for your answer.
