Problem
A small reconnaissance drone is launched from rest and, after a short interval, is found to possess a linear momentum of magnitude 2500kgms−1 directed 30∘ north of east in the horizontal plane. The mass of the drone is known to be 500kg.
(i) Resolve the given momentum into its eastward and northward components.
(ii) Using these components, calculate the corresponding components of the drone’s velocity and then write the velocity vector in unit–vector notation.
(iii) Determine the magnitude of the velocity and the exact direction (bearing) in which the drone is moving. Show each step of your working clearly.
