Problem

(Conceptual reasoning on signs of rotational quantities) A ceiling fan is rotating about a fixed axis with constant angular speed and then slows down uniformly to rest after the switch is turned off. (i) Define angular displacement and angular acceleration, mentioning their SI units. (ii) If the clockwise sense is taken as negative, explain with reason whether the angular acceleration of the fan while slowing down is positive or negative. (iii) During the interval from switching off until coming to rest, will the angular displacement of the fan be positive or negative? Give a brief justification based on your answer to part (ii).
