Problem

While checking a coil for conformity with Ohm’s law, a student records the following data. Each voltage reading has an uncertainty of ±0.02 V\pm0.02\,\text{V} and each current reading an uncertainty of ±0.01 A\pm0.01\,\text{A}. Voltage VV (V): 1.20, 2.45, 3.60, 4.80 Current II (A): 0.240, 0.490, 0.730, 0.970 (a) For every observation, calculate the resistance of the coil. (b) Determine the average resistance from the four values obtained in part (a). (c) Compute the percentage deviation of each individual resistance from the average value. (d) If a variation within 3%3\% of the average is considered acceptable, decide whether the coil can be said to obey Ohm’s law within the stated experimental uncertainty. Justify your answer.
