Problem

Two solid pulleys are connected by a belt that does not slip. Pulley 1 has radius R1=0.10 mR_1 = 0.10\,\text{m} and rotates clockwise at 8.0 rad/s8.0\,\text{rad/s}. Pulley 2 has radius R2=0.25 mR_2 = 0.25\,\text{m}. (1) Derive an expression that relates the angular speeds ω1\omega_1 and ω2\omega_2 of the two pulleys in terms of their radii, given that the belt does not slip. (2) Using your expression from part (a), determine the magnitude and direction (clockwise or counter-clockwise) of the angular speed of pulley 2. (3) Suppose a point on the rim of pulley 2 moves a distance of 1.0 m along its circumference. Calculate the angular displacement, in radians, that pulley 2 undergoes during this motion.
