Problem

A ball of density dd is dropped on to a horizontal solid surface. It bounces elastically from the surface and returns to its original position in a time t1t_1. Next, the ball is released and its falls through the same height before striking the surface of a liquid of density dLd_L. Neglect all frictional and other dissipative force. Assume the depth of the liquid to be large. If d<dLd < d_L, obtain an expression (in terms of dd, t1t_1 and dLd_L) for the time t2t_2 the ball takes to come back to the position from which it was released. (A) 2t12t_1 (B) dL1(dL−d)\frac{dL_1}{(d_L - d)} (C) dLt1(dL−d)\frac{d_L t_1}{(d_L - d)} (D) 2dL1(dL−d)\frac{2dL_1}{(d_L - d)}
