Problem

Two identical industrial conveyor belts, A and B, are each driven by a motor rated at 2.4 kW2.4\,\text{kW}. Belt A moves packages along its length at a uniform speed of 2 m s−12\,\text{m s}^{-1}, whereas Belt B moves similar packages at 3 m s−13\,\text{m s}^{-1}. (i) Determine the horizontal driving force exerted by the motor on Belt A. (ii) Determine the horizontal driving force exerted by the motor on Belt B. (iii) Calculate the ratio of the force on Belt A to the force on Belt B and state which belt is capable of carrying the heavier load at its own speed. Give a brief reason for your answer.
