Problem

Two cranes, A and B, are used at a construction site to lift concrete blocks to a height of 15 m15\,\text{m}. (i) Crane A lifts 3030 blocks, each of mass 500 kg500\,\text{kg}, to the required height in 1 h1\,\text{h}. Calculate the total work done by crane A. (ii) Crane B lifts 2020 blocks, each of mass 800 kg800\,\text{kg}, to the same height in 30 min30\,\text{min}. Calculate the total work done by crane B. (iii) Determine the average power output of each crane in kilowatts. (iv) Which crane is more powerful, and by what factor is it more powerful? (v) Convert the power of the more powerful crane obtained in part (iii) to horsepower, taking 1 hp=746 W1\,\text{hp}=746\,\text{W}.
