Problem

Consider the cubic polynomial g(x)=3x3+ax2+bx+4g(x)=3x^{3}+ax^{2}+bx+4. (i) The remainder obtained on dividing g(x)g(x) by x−1x-1 is 77. Form an equation involving aa and bb. (ii) The remainder obtained on dividing g(x)g(x) by x+2x+2 is −5-5. Form a second equation involving aa and bb. (iii) Solve the simultaneous equations from parts (i) and (ii) to find the numerical values of aa and bb. (iv) Using the values of aa and bb, determine the remainder when g(x)g(x) is divided by x−3x-3.
