Problem

In a previous investigation, a student produced a straight-line graph of rotational kinetic energy versus the square of angular speed for an unknown flywheel. The best-fit line had a slope of 0.018 J/(rad/s)20.018\,\text{J}/(\text{rad/s})^{2}. (1) When the flywheel is later spinning at 60 rad/s60\,\text{rad/s}, calculate its rotational kinetic energy. (2) Starting from 60 rad/s60\,\text{rad/s}, the flywheel is brought uniformly to rest in 8.0 s8.0\,\text{s} by a constant friction torque. Determine the magnitude of this torque.
