A resistor of 40 Ω40\,\Omega, an inductor of 120 mH120\,\text{mH} and a capacitor of 30 μF30\,\mu\text{F} are connected in series to a 200 V200\,\text{V} (rms) a.c. source. (a) Calculate the rms current in the circuit when the supply frequency is 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz}. (b) Calculate the rms current when the supply frequency is raised to 100 Hz100\,\text{Hz}. (c) Which of the two frequencies gives the larger current? Give a brief reason based on your calculations. (d) Determine the ratio of the currents obtained in parts (a) and (b).
