Problem

A trolley moves down a gentle incline under a constant net force. Work through the following parts. (i) A 5 kg5\,\text{kg} trolley starts with a speed of 1 m/s1\,\text{m/s} and moves 15 m15\,\text{m} down the incline with a constant acceleration of 0.4 m/s20.4\,\text{m/s}^{2}. Calculate its speed at the end of the 15 m15\,\text{m}. (ii) Find the magnitude of the net force acting on the trolley along the incline. (iii) Determine the work done by this net force during the 15 m15\,\text{m} travel. (iv) Show that the value obtained in part (iii) equals the change in kinetic energy of the trolley. (v) If the same net force acts over a distance of 30 m30\,\text{m}, starting again from a speed of 1 m/s1\,\text{m/s}, predict the final speed of the trolley without recalculating the acceleration.
