Problem

A boy has a mass of 45 kg45\,\text{kg}. (i) Calculate his weight at a place where the acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m/s29.8\,\text{m/s}^2. (ii) The boy travels to the Moon where the acceleration due to gravity is one-sixth that on the Earth. Calculate his weight on the Moon. (iii) At the Earth’s equator, the value of gg is 0.3 m/s20.3\,\text{m/s}^2 less than at the poles. Taking gpole=9.83 m/s2g_{\text{pole}} = 9.83\,\text{m/s}^2, find his weight at the equator.
