Problem

A 3.0 kg3.0\,\text{kg} point mass rests on a frictionless horizontal surface at the coordinate (0.60 m,  0.80 m)(0.60\,\text{m},\;0.80\,\text{m}) in the xyxy-plane. Answer the following, treating the zz-axis as perpendicular to the plane and passing through the origin unless otherwise specified. (a) Determine the moment of inertia of the mass about the zz-axis through the origin. (b) Determine the moment of inertia of the same mass about the xx-axis through the origin. (c) Explain why the numerical answers to parts (a) and (b) are different, making specific reference to the geometric meaning of the distances used in each calculation.
