Problem
An ice machine produces identical cube‐shaped ice pieces, each with an edge length of 3.0cm. A caterer wishes to construct a single, solid ice block of dimensions 27cm×12cm×9.0cm using only these ice cubes. The density of ice is uniform and remains the same for all pieces involved.
(a) Determine the volume of one ice cube.
(b) Calculate the total mass of the large rectangular block if it were a single solid piece of ice.
(c) Compute the minimum number of whole ice cubes required so that their combined mass equals or exceeds the mass found in part (b). Clearly state any assumptions and show all reasoning.
