Problem

Taking the Earth’s radius R=6.4×106 mR = 6.4 \times 10^{6}\,\text{m} and surface acceleration due to gravity g=9.80 m s−2g = 9.80\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}, calculate the value of gg at a depth of 500 m500\,\text{m} below the surface. (Give your answer correct to four significant figures.)
