Problem
(a) Explain, with the aid of the right-hand rule, how the direction of the vector product of two non-parallel vectors is decided.
(b) Two equal forces F1 and F2 act at the origin such that their lines of action lie in the xy–plane and enclose an angle of 60∘. If the first force is directed from the positive x-axis toward the positive y-axis and the second is directed from the positive y-axis toward the negative x-axis, predict whether the torque produced by F1×F2 is along the positive or negative z-axis. Give reasons for your answer.
