Problem

Newton’s law of universal gravitation is expressed as F=G m1m2r2,F = G\,\frac{m_1 m_2}{r^{2}}, where FF is the gravitational force between two point masses m1m_1 and m2m_2 separated by a distance rr, and GG is the universal gravitational constant. (i) Identify whether GG is a base quantity or a derived quantity. (ii) Derive the dimensional formula for GG. (iii) Express GG in SI base units. (iv) The speed vv of a satellite in a stable circular orbit of radius rr around a planet of mass MM is given by v=kGMr,v = k\sqrt{\dfrac{G M}{r}}, where kk is a numerical constant. Using dimensional arguments only, show that kk is dimensionless and that the expression for vv has the correct dimension of speed.
