Problem

The position vector of a particle executing uniform circular motion in the XYXY-plane is given in Cartesian form by r(t)=rcos⁡ωt ı^+rsin⁡ωt ȷ^,\mathbf r(t)=r\cos\omega t\,\hat\imath + r\sin\omega t\,\hat\jmath, where rr and ω\omega are constants. (i) Differentiate r(t)\mathbf r(t) with respect to time to obtain the velocity vector v(t)\mathbf v(t) and show that v(t)\mathbf v(t) is perpendicular to r(t)\mathbf r(t) at every instant. (ii) Differentiate v(t)\mathbf v(t) to find the acceleration vector a(t)\mathbf a(t). Prove that a(t)\mathbf a(t) points towards the centre of the circle and that its magnitude is v2/rv^{2}/r. (iii) Write explicitly the components of v\mathbf v and a\mathbf a at the instant t=T/4t = T/4, where TT is the time period of revolution.
