Problem

A single convex lens of focal length 6.0 cm is used successively by two different observers. (i) Derive an expression for the angular magnification produced when the virtual image is formed exactly at the observer’s near point, taken as D cm. (ii) Observer A has D = 25 cm, whereas observer B has a nearer least distance of distinct vision, D = 20 cm. Calculate the magnifying power for each observer. (iii) Determine the percentage by which observer B’s magnifying power exceeds that of observer A. (iv) State why the same lens yields different magnifications for different observers even though its focal length is fixed.
