Problem

For two bodies P and Q moving in a straight line, the slope of the tangent to the graph of kinetic energy K versus speed v at v = 4 m/s is measured as 24 J m⁻¹ s for P and 36 J m⁻¹ s for Q. Answer the following: (i) Show that the slope of the tangent to a K–v graph at any speed v is equal to m v, where m is the mass of the body. (ii) Using the given slopes, calculate the masses of bodies P and Q. (iii) Determine the kinetic energy of each body at v = 4 m/s.
