Problem

A solid disc is set into rotation from rest. It is first provided a constant angular acceleration of 2 rad s−22\,\text{rad\,s}^{-2} for 5 s5\,\text{s} and is then slowed down with a constant angular deceleration of 1 rad s−21\,\text{rad\,s}^{-2} until it comes to rest again. (i) Calculate the time taken by the disc to come to rest after the start of deceleration. (ii) Determine the total angle turned by the disc from the instant it started rotating till it finally stops.
