Problem

A displacement vector in the xx–yy plane is given by D=6 i^−8 j^\mathbf{D}=6\,\mathbf{\hat{i}}-8\,\mathbf{\hat{j}} (all quantities in SI units). (i) Calculate the magnitude of D\mathbf{D}. (ii) Find the unit vector d^\mathbf{\hat{d}} along D\mathbf{D}. (iii) Determine the unit vector d^′\mathbf{\hat{d}}' that points in the direction opposite to D\mathbf{D}.
