Problem

The function f(x)=x+kx2+1f(x)=\dfrac{x+k}{x^{2}+1} is defined on the closed interval [1,3][1,3], where kk is a real constant. (i) Obtain f′(x)f'(x). (ii) Establish the inequality that f′(x)f'(x) must satisfy on [1,3][1,3] for ff to be strictly decreasing throughout the interval. (iii) Solve the inequality obtained in (ii) to determine the range of kk for which ff is strictly decreasing on [1,3][1,3].
